The most iconic Buffalo Bills moments of all time

The most iconic Buffalo Bills moments of all time

The Buffalo Bills have had major success over the years, including a huge period of success in the early 90s where they played in multiple Super Bowls in a row. As you can probably guess, this means there have been some epic moments on the field too. So, we present to you — the most iconic Buffalo Bills moments of all time.

Now, we know that many of you Buffalo Bills fans will have your favorite moments. We are sorry if we didn’t include your favorite play or moment, but we are positive that the moments we have chosen showcase the team’s success or will go down in history as some of the most important moments for the team.

1992 AFC Wild Card playoff game

It’s 1992. The Houston Oilers are up by 32 points. No team can come back from that, right? Of course not. It had never been done before. Legions of Bills fans were likely screaming at their TVs. Fans in the stadium wondered whether they wasted their cash watching a team that was supposed to be good suck. Well, something happened that had never happened before, and likely will never happen again — the Buffalo Bills overcame the deficit. They went on to win 41-38 in overtime. The fans celebrated. The team celebrated. The game is still being spoken about to this day.

Unfortunately, we were not lucky enough to see the game on TV. However, we’ve watched the game. Even though we know how the whole thing ends up, we’re still on the edge of our seats watching it, and we still get mad seeing the Buffalo Bills suck so badly during it. We still got that major amount of jubilation at the end too. If you can grab a copy of the whole game, watch it. You’ll probably have the same experience we had. No game has ever given us this range of emotions.

2021 Wild Card victory playoff

This is one playoff match that won’t have you on the edge of your seat, mad that your beloved Bills are not playing as well as they should. In 2021, the Buffalo Bills demolished the Patriots 47-17. A game that should have been a closer match than this ended up being nothing more than a fun kickaround for the Bills. They dominated every part of the field.

One of the awesome things about this game was the fact that the Bills had rarely won against the Patriots over the last 20 years. Just seven wins out of 42 games. This just made the victory that much sweeter.

This was an event that many bettors had an eye on, as there was great value to be had backing the Bills, and many people scanned various offers available through sports betting sites to find the best odds for this one. We thought the game would end up being much closer than it was predicted to be. However, at the end of the day, it was a win for the Bills and a win for the bank accounts of those who had a bet on the Bills for the game.

The end of the playoff drought

From 2000 to 2017, there was just no point watching the Bills in the playoffs. It wasn’t fun. It was a traumatizing experience. Loads of near misses, major losses, injuries to big stars and plenty of gloating from the fans of other teams. Well, that all changed in 2017, although it could have been another near miss.

The Bills faced the Miami Dolphins, and it got off to a great start. The Bills were up 19-0 in the third quarter, and it looked to be pretty routine from here on out. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be. The Miami Dolphins are the master of good comebacks, and it wasn’t long before the score was 22-17, and the Miami Dolphins were pushing for the win.

In the dying moments of the game, the Dolphins were so close to grabbing enough points to win, but Poyer, for the Bills, pulled out all the stops to make a great interception, clinching a playoff spot for the Bills. The crowd rejoices. We rejoice. We presume the Dolphins’ fans sulked a little.

1964 AFL title

We are going to assume that many of our readers weren’t around for this game, nor have they seen it. However, it is still a game that is talked about fondly, even if none of us were there to experience the elation when it happened.

In 1964, the Buffalo Bills faced the San Diego Chargers and, quite honestly, were expected to win. Things seemed to be going pretty easy for the San Diego Chargers. It was a routine game for them, with the Chargers up by 7-0 pretty quickly. Then it all changed, with one of the most iconic tackles ever seen in an NFL game, and one you might have seen replays of before.

Mike Stratton, with the most perfect tackle imaginable, took out Keith Lincoln. Lincoln was the Chargers’ not-so-secret weapon. With him out of the game for good, it gave the Bills the perfect route back in. They ended up winning 20-7, and their first AFL Championship was in the bag.

1990 AFC Championship

If you want to see how much the Bills dominated in the 1990s, this is the game to start with. The Bills were always predicted to win their match-up with the Los Angeles Raiders. They had already cast much better teams to the side. However, nobody could have anticipated just how much they would win by.

The signs were positive. By the end of the first quarter, the Bills were already leading by 21-3. The game was essentially in the bag, but let’s be honest, it is the first quarter. It just takes a couple of errors in the next few quarters and your luck can change. So, the Bills didn’t take their foot off the gas at all. The result? 51-3. It was incredibly embarrassing for the Los Angeles Raiders, but the Bills ended up with the biggest score in the history of the AFC — a record that still holds at the time of writing.

1990 to 1993

This was the best time to be a Buffalo Bills fan. In the early 90s, the team dominated. The best period was from 1990 to 1993 when the Bills appeared in the Super Bowl an impressive four times in a row. A feat that will unlikely ever be matched again, but one that sent all opponents of the Bills cowering back in the early 1990s.

There are likely many more iconic moments in the future and iconic moments that we missed. While the Bills aren’t as great as they used to be, they’re still pretty good, so we are excited to see what major moments will be added to this list over the next couple of decades. Probably a few awesome wins here and there, maybe a Super Bowl. Maybe an epic comeback. We don’t know. All we know is that we’ll be there, watching the game that we’ve always enjoyed, and the team that we love. We can’t wait to see what the future brings.
