AFC East Injury Preview: Week 16

AFC East Injury Preview: Week 16

The regular season is winding down as Week 16 in the AFC East kicks off. The New York Jets are hosting the Los Angeles Rams, the Miami Dolphins are fighting for the playoffs hosting the San Francisco 49ers, and the Buffalo Bills host the New England Patriots.

Read below for the full injury breakdown around the division.

Miami Dolphins

DOUBTFUL

WR Dee Eskridge (Knee)

Eskridge missed his second week of practice and now his second game after suffering a knee injury in Week 14. He was unable to practice all week and is doubtful, I do not expect him to play.

WR Jaylen Waddle (Right Knee)

Waddle suffered a right knee and ankle injury midway through the second quarter on Sunday and was unable to finish the game. He is officially on the injury report for the knee which suggests an MCL sprain.

He was unable to practice all week and has been ruled doubtful.

QUESTIONABLE

WR Tyreek Hill (Wrist/Rest)

Hill continues to require rehab on his wrist injury that was aggravated dating back to his arrest prior to the Dolphins game early in the season.

OT Terron Armstead (Knee)

Armstead has been dealing with a knee injury dating back to Week 8 and missed his first game of the season after exiting early the week prior. He was unable to practice all week except Friday and has been deemed questionable.

OT Kendall Lamm (Back)

Lamm missed last week after suffering a back injury in Week 14. He has mentioned requiring the need for an injection indicating this is a notable pain issue.

ACTIVE

FB Alec Ingold (Ankle)

Ingold has been working through an ankle injury over the last two weeks and playing last week.

QB Tua Tagovailoa (Hip)

Tagovailoa is dealing with a hip injury following Sunday’s win. It’s not clear if this is a hip pointer or something more notable, but he was limited Wednesday and Thursday but has no designation heading into the game.

RB De’Von Achane (Groin)

Achane is once again dealing with a soft tissue injury, this time a groin strain. Details are scarce regarding the severity of the injury but he practiced in full all week and has no designation.

NFI/INJURED RESERVE

LB Cameron Goode (Knee)

Goode is still rehabbing back from his patellar tendon tear suffered in Week 18 of last season.

LS Blake Ferguson (Personal)

Ferguson was ruled out for the remainder of the season as he continues to deal with his personal health issue.

LB Bradley Chubb (Left Knee)

Chubb is still rehabbing from his left ACL tear, meniscus, and patellar tendon tear suffered in Week 17 of last season.

New York Jets

OUT

CB Michael Carter II (Back)

Carter is still dealing with a herniated disc in his low back dating back to Week 5 and continuing to play through the injury. However, he was unable to practice all week and downgraded to out.

QUESTIONABLE

RB Braelon Allen (Back)

Allen was forced from Sunday’s win over the Jaguars for most of the game before returning late in the game. He was limited all week and is officially questionable for the game.

OL Alijah Vera-Tucker (Ankle)

AVT has been dealing with a high-ankle sprain dating back to Week 7. He missed Week 8 and 9 before returning to play.

DL Quinnen Williams (Hamstring)

Williams appeared to pick up a hamstring strain in the win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Head coach Jeff Ulbrich noted that Williams tried to play through the injury but became ineffective. He was unable to practice all week but questionable.

DL Leki Fotu (Knee)

Fotu is working through a knee injury picked up during Sunday’s win. It appears to be minor as he had full participation in practice all week.

ACTIVE

OL Xavier Newman (Groin)

Newman missed last week’s game after suffering a groin strain in practice prior to Week 14 and has missed the last two games.

CB DJ Reed (Groin)

Reed missed last week’s game and has been dealing with a groin injury for the majority of the season dating back to Week 6 against the Buffalo Bills. It would not surprise me if he required a core muscle repair due to the lingering groin injury.

RB Isaiah Davis (Back)

Davis is also working through a back injury seeing just 41 percent of offensive snaps and 57 percent on special teams. He was a limited participant all week and is questionable.

CB Brandin Echols (Shoulder)

Echols was listed as doubtful last week after suffering a shoulder injury back in Week 14 and did not play.

OL Morgan Moses (Left Knee)

Moses had been working through a left wrist injury suffered in pregame warmups prior to Week 14 but this appears to have resolved enough to be removed from the injury report. His knee continues to be the primary issue dating back to Week 3. He suffered a Grade 2 MCL sprain, a meniscus tear, and a small fracture within the knee. It would not surprise me if he underwent surgery after the season to clean up the knee.

LB Quincy Williams (Knee)

Williams was a new addition to the injury report this week with a knee designation. He was limited Wednesday and Thursday.
