Injury Analysis: Buffalo Bills DT Tommy Akingbesote

Looking for defensive line help following the injury to Ed Oliver, the Buffalo Bills signed DT Tommy Akingbesote to the practice squad on Tuesday.

Akingbesote comes to Buffalo after a collegiate career at Maryland, where he appeared in 44 games and started 21 games over his four-year career. Following his collegiate career, he was drafted in the seventh round by the Dallas Cowboys in 2025 before being released following roster cutdowns. He was then signed to the Carolina Panthers to their practice squad two weeks later.

Below is Tommy Akinbesote’s publicly reported injury history and analysis.

Buffalo Bills Injury Analysis

He only missed one game during his collegiate career for unknown reasons. He did play sparingly during his freshman year, which is common as teams are working their young players in. Even looking through Dane Brugler’s The Beast, there were no injury concerns noted. I could not find anything from the Dallas Cowboys training camp other than that he was cut.

Considering he is signed to the practice squad, the Bills have an opportunity to develop another young defensive tackle. This may have been someone the Bills were interested in during the draft, and they see the opportunity to get a draft target in their locker room. We may not see him play for a while as he gets up to speed but he could contribute later this season.

I would like to welcome Tommy Akingbesote to Buffalo and to remain healthy this season.
