Injury Analysis: Buffalo Bills FB Brock Lampe

The Buffalo Bills made a low key signing back in September 14 bringing in former Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots FB Brock Lampe to the practice squad. In the corresponding move, the team released G Nick Broeker.

Lampe comes to Buffalo after entering the league in 2025 with the Patriots before later latching on with the Seahawks earlier this year. He has yet to appear in a regular season game due to injury but he shows some intrigue at 6’1” and 249 lbs.

Read below for a full injury history and analysis.

Lampe suffered a left foot injury on the first day of pads in training camp. He was seen roughly a month later by ESPN beat reporter Mike Reiss in a cast on his left leg/foot and on a knee scooter.

Lampe was part of final roster cuts with Seattle and waived with an injury settlement before visiting Buffalo two days later on September 1. Two weeks after that, he signed with the Bills, indicating the injury was minor.

Buffalo Bills Injury Analysis

There isn’t much to dig into with Lampe unfortunately as many of the details of his injuries aren’t known. His left leg injury that required the use of a scooter for at least a month indicates that this wasn’t an injury stash for the Patriots. The fact that he was still non-weightbearing or limited in weightbearing for a month tells us that this was a significant injury. This could have been an ankle fracture, Lisfranc sprain/fracture with surgery, foot fracture, Jones fracture, or some type of tendon/ligament injury that required surgery. The knee scooter may have allowed for mobility for non-weightbearing or allowed him to get around easier without crutches or causing increased pain in walking on the foot.

Looking at social media for additional clues left us without any extra information as to the specificity of the injury. He did spend the entire offseason with the Patriots until he was cut right before training camp. He appeared to be healthy enough to sign with the Seattle Seahawks two weeks later until he suffered an undisclosed injury and was released with an injury settlement.

This injury appeared to be minor enough for the Bills that they signed him to the practice squad just two weeks later.

I’d love to know more about his left leg/foot injury but there are so many possibilities as to what it could be, it’s not worth digging into without a specific diagnosis. His most recent injury appears to be a non-issue as well considering he passed a physical.

Final Thoughts

This signing tells us that the Bills still value fullback as a position in their offense, but they can’t figure out who they want after releasing Jackson Acker and Ben VanSumeren. Any practice squad signing really doesn’t have a downside as there is very little financial commitment but allows the team to develop them. I’m curious to see how quickly they can get Lampe up to speed and whether he can eventually contribute as a call up.

I’d like to welcome Brock Lampe to Buffalo and to remain healthy this season.
