Injury Analysis: Buffalo Bills WR Ahmarean Brown

Injury Analysis: Buffalo Bills WR Ahmarean Brown

As part of several roster moves on Wednesday, the Buffalo Bills signed WR Ahmarean Brown to the practice squad.

This comes after a tryout from September 3 along with several other players.

Brown comes to the Bills after signing with the Cleveland Browns as a UDFA this year. Below is Ahmarean Brown’s publicly reported injury history and analysis.

Injury History

College

2019 Georgia Tech

No publicly reported injuries.

2020 Georgia Tech

Undisclosed injury, missed three games.

There are no additional details of the injury other than Dane Brugler of The Athletic noting in his 2024 draft guide that he missed the final three games of the season. Given that was when COVID was in full effect, it’s possible they didn’t disclose his status if he was sick.

2021 South Carolina

No publicly reported injuries.

2022 South Carolina

No publicly reported injuries.

2023 South Carolina

Hamstring strain, vs North Carolina, missed three total games.

Brown suffered a hamstring strain midway through the North Carolina game in Week 1. He played the following week against Furman before sitting out against Georgia and Mississippi State. He continued to battle the injury against Tennessee and Florida before exiting again against Missouri. He missed the following game against Texas A&M before returning to finish the season.

Buffalo Bills Injury Analysis

At 5’9” and 167 lbs, Brown relies on his speed as his primary weapon as a pass catcher according to Dane Brugler of The Athletic. Looking at his stats in college, he appears to have some experience with special teams along with kick returns but more time spent with punt returns.

During his time with Cleveland this summer, he did get some work in with the offense but saw him take four kickoff returns. Given how the rules have changed this year with kickoffs, I’m sure the Bills are stockpiling anyone that can contribute.

Given that he is a speed guy, it’s not surprising that he dealt with a hamstring strain but it’s important to note that it didn’t linger into the combine or the preseason. He’s also on the practice squad which means he likely won’t have a ton of opportunities to injure himself further.

Otherwise, a fairly clean injury history, hope that he stays healthy, and sees the field at some point for his NFL debut.
