Injury Analysis: Buffalo Bills P Jake Camarda

Looking to bring in challengers for incumbent P Sam Martin, the Bills signed P Jake Camarda to a futures contract back on January 7th just as the regular season was ending.

Camarda comes to Buffalo after getting drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL draft. After two seasons and four games, Camarda was released by the Buccaneers and forced to find a new home.

This is a steep decline after being rated one of the top punters in the 2022 draft, ranked third behind former Bills draft pick Matt Ariaza, but with his NFL experience, a new home may be best to get his career back on track. A futures contract is essentially a camp invite and the chance to compete for a roster spot but it does not guarantee anything beyond that. The Bills could benefit from

Injury Analysis

As with most special teams players, there aren’t many injury concerns as he begins his stint with Buffalo. He was one of the best punters coming out of college during his draft year and showed some promise during his rookie year.

In addition, he also held in college and has experience with kickoffs which helps with versatility. There aren’t any concerns for Camarda other than whether he can beat out Sam Martin for the starting punter role.

We will have to see how things progress this off-season but hopefully, the punting competition can bring the best out of both Martin and Camarda to help elevate special teams after a lackluster 2024 campaign.
