College: Western Kentucky
Year joined Bills: 2021
Acquired: Free Agency via Chargers

College Injuries:

Played in 42 consecutive games at left tackle before suffering a right ankle injury against Miami (OH) early in the 3rd quarter. By video, it appears as though he suffered a high ankle sprain for which he missed 2 games. Several reports indicated it was a knee sprain, but the official team page states an ankle injury and is more consistent with film than news reports.

Lamp then suffered a high ankle sprain early in the week at the Senior Bowl and could not participate. He later reported that he was fully healthy and that he had no issues whatsoever. The side was not specified but it would not be surprising if he had re-injured his right ankle.

Pro Injuries:

2017 Chargers

Suffered a right ACL tear in early August shortly after training camp started. He missed the entire season rehabbing the injury. He appeared on track 6 months out from surgery in 2018 and was reportedly running prior to OTA’s.

However, he required what was termed a “minor procedure” in April of that year that forced him to miss the entirety of the offseason. However, this procedure caused him to keep weight off his right leg for 10 weeks, significantly hampering his abilities to be fully healthy for training camp.

2018 Chargers

He ultimately played in 2 games after being activated off of the PUP list but was a healthy scratch for a majority of the season, appearing in only Week 6 and 17 for a total of 17 snaps. During the season, there were no other publicly reported injuries.

2019 Chargers

Lamp finally appeared healthy, appearing in 7 games before going down with a right fibular fracture against the Titans in Week 7. The injury sent him to injured reserve for the remainder of the season, forcing him to miss 9 games total.

2020 Chargers

Appeared and started in 16 games, with no publicly reported injuries.

Surgery in offseason June 26, 2020 on right ankle. Was placed on PUP list, waived several days later with a failed physical designation, and didn’t play in 2020. The specifics or the reason for the ankle surgery are unknown.

Matt Breida Injury Profile

Matt Breida
Position: RB
Height/Weight: 5’10″/195 lbs.
College: Georgia Southern
Year joined Bills: 2021
Acquired: Free Agency via Dolphins

High School

Going back to his junior varsity days, Breida suffered a broken right forearm during his freshman year of high school.

Georgia Southern

Played in 48 games out of 48 games while in college. Noted to have an ankle injury against Georgia State followed by offseason shoulder surgery in 2016.

Based on the wording from this article at The Athletic, it’s possible that he suffered a torn labrum in 2013 requiring surgery. The prior article noting the 2016 surgery isn’t as detailed, which suggests that he suffered two shoulder injuries during his time in college.

2017 San Francisco 49ers

Appeared in 16 games, did not suffer any publicly known injuries.

2018 49ers

Breida suffered a separated shoulder in the preseason, missing time leading up to the regular season. He then suffered a knee hyperextension in Week 3. The following week, he suffered a shoulder subluxation/dislocation in Week 4, not missing time for either injury. For each of these injuries, the side was not specified.

Despite not missing any games due to those injuries, Breida then suffered a left ankle injury termed a “mid-ankle sprain,” but more likely a high ankle sprain in Week 7. Breida then suffered another ankle sprain on the left side that was a different injury, which suggests a possible low ankle sprain in Week 12, forcing him to miss Week 13. Another ankle injury suffered in Week 16 led to missing Week 17 to end a disastrous 4-12 season, overall missing two games.

2019 49ers

Not able to stay fully healthy, Breida sustained a slightly torn pectoral muscle during OTA’s resulting in missing a portion of the offseason program. This was the result of a weightlifting injury that is a common mechanism of injury for a pectoral tear. He ultimately did not require surgery.

Breida suffered yet another ankle injury, side not specified in Week 8, aggravating it again in Week 10, missing three games.

2020 Miami Dolphins

Breida suffered a hamstring strain in Week 8, missing Weeks 9 and 10. Shortly after returning, he tested positive for COVID-19, missing Weeks 13 and 14.

2020 Bears

Possible right shoulder A/C joint sprain, Week 8, missed 2 games. However, Adam Schefter reported that he injured his rotator cuff and labrum, similar to 2018, though reports above state that he injured the A/C joint.
